Walking in Authority

Daughter of the Most High is not just a name; it is a declaration of how you should view yourself, who you are, or who you are becoming. It represents what all young women should aspire to be. The name carries weight because it highlights two important truths: first, that you are a child of God; and second, that you acknowledge Jesus as the one true God and recognise His supremacy.

Now that we have established that Daughter of the Most High is not merely a title, what does this lead to?

It leads to the understanding that, as a daughter of the Most High, you are called to recognise who you are in Christ. You must establish your identity in Him and then walk in His authority.

If you do not know who He is, you will not know who you are; and if you do not know who you are, you will not understand the authority you stand in.

This post has two parts.

First, identifying who you are in Christ.

The first way to find your identity in God is through the Word of God. To truly know someone, you must spend time with them. Think of a friendship or relationship: if you want to understand who someone is, what they believe, or what they stand for, spending time with them is essential. The same approach must be taken with Jesus Christ. This is not about holding a title; it is about building a relationship. It is through relationship with Christ that you begin to learn more about yourself and who you are called to be. You cannot learn perfection by living in or becoming familiar with sin, but by looking to the One who is sinless and perfect.

When you spend time with Jesus, you begin to recognise that, as humans, we are imperfect, even if we may think otherwise about ourselves. Being honest and open about this is part of how you grow in Christ, and it is through this growth that you learn to walk in His authority. As this journey continues, we will speak more about relationship with Jesus. You will notice that in every post there will be an underlying theme of identity, because that is what being a Daughter of the Most High is truly about: finding who you are in Christ. This will not be confined to a single blog post on identity, but reinforced throughout, to establish, repeat, and remind you of who you are called to be, a Daughter of the Most High.

Now that we have established that being a Daughter of the Most High requires finding your identity in Christ, it follows that once your identity is rooted in Him, you are also called to walk in His authority.

Second, what does it mean to walk in authority?

Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” (Acts 3:6)

In this verse, it shows that Peter recognised his own limitations, yet he also understood that in Christ there are no such limitations. He knew Jesus, and he believed in His power. Peter understood that all he truly had to offer was Jesus, and that nothing else could compare to or be more valuable than Him.

Peter also knew that he could walk in Jesus’ authority. This is clear when he says, “In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” He recognised that when he called upon the name of Jesus, there would be power. He had faith in Jesus, something we will explore more deeply in another post.

How does this relate to you, and what can you do as a believer?

We all have the ability to walk in Jesus’ power. He says in Luke 10:19, “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.” You have to believe these words, trust in them, and hold them dearly in your heart.

Through the power of this scripture, you can overcome any struggle, whether emotional, physical, or mental, because Jesus has already given you the authority to overcome. You simply have to believe. You don’t have to live in sadness, depression, self-harm, self-doubt, or low self-esteem. When you know who Jesus is, you will know what He says about you, and you will learn how to live in alignment with His truth.

Did you know Jesus said this about you?
“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” (Psalm 139:14)

Read the Word of God (the Bible) to learn what God says about you. When you do, your faith will grow and you will start to understand the authority that he has given you, to overcome all things. (John 16:33)

The devil is not afraid of you simply calling yourself a Christian; he is afraid of you knowing who you are. When you understand your identity in Christ, you begin to recognise the schemes Satan has against your life. Instead of unknowingly partnering with those plans, you will oppose them with discernment and authority.

The Bible says “And I will put enmity Between you and the woman” (Genesis 3:15). Satan’s opposition toward women flows from this truth, but through Christ, we have the power to overcome.

I’m going to give you a task.

Choose a book of the New Testament, and as you read, highlight, using your favourite colour, anything that stands out to you about Jesus and His character. For example, moments where He shows kindness, compassion, love, or authority. These observations will help you form a true and grounded understanding of who Jesus really is, and they will support you on your journey of faith.

This matters because knowing Jesus is not the same as knowing about Him.

Reflection:

·      Do I actually know Jesus, or do I just know about Him? (Matthew 15:8)

·      Is my identity recognised spiritually, or just verbally?  (Acts 19:15)

Rise up, daughter of the Most High.
Be strong in the Lord, stay steadfast in him (1 Corinthians 15:58), and establish your identity in Him so that you may walk in His authority.

Jonielia

“But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭10‬-‭11‬ ‭NIV‬‬
